Not to be missed -- on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Miller Theatre, kickass pianist Marilyn Nonken will be performing the best piano work written in the past 30 years. The piece includes an optional improvised cadenza -- the composer is, after all, a first-rate improviser himself, and the cadenza on his own recording of the work is thrilling -- but not all classically-trained pianists are up for the challenge. Enter Ethan Iverson -- yes, that Ethan Iverson -- who has been commissioned to write an Iversonian cadenza especially for this performance.
The night also features Ursula Oppens, Tom Kolor, and Dominic Donato in the NYC premiere of Rzewski's Bring Them Home. Plus a preconcert chat with Rzewski and the proprietor of PostClassic, Kyle Gann.
Yeah, you're goddamn right I'm looking forward to this gig.
