Here is another recording of "Desolation Sound," this one from this summer's BMI Jazz Composers Workshop concert. The sound is much improved compared to the earlier CB's MiniDAT recording, thanks to the sonic wizardry of recording engineer Jeff Jones. The band here is the BMI New York Jazz Orchestra, with the amazing Ben Kono featured on soprano sax.
Ben can also be heard with the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble. I think it's pretty safe to assume that the handful of people following this blog already own this record, but on the off chance you haven't checked out this band, fercrissakes, go… Hollenbeck's A Blessing is unquestionably the most exciting big band debut since Maria's Evanescence hit back in 1994. Absolutely required listening.
