My apologies for the recent hiatus, but I've been busy writing new music for an out-of-town hit.
On October 28, at Stadtgarten in Cologne (or Köln -- like Jean/Hans Arp, this town swings both ways), I will have the tremendous honor of conducting the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra in a night of my own music. I've heard their recording of Gabriel Pérez's music and it's killing -- you can check out their rendition of Pérez's "Pan con Pan" on CCJO trumpet soloist Matthias Bergmann's MySpace page. Needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to this, my very first European gig. I'm about halfway done the new chart I'll be premiering with the CCJO, and I'm very excited to hear their take on my music.
The concert is part of the jazz.cologne festival and will be broadcast live on WDR 3. WDR have an interweb stream as well.
I'm heading over there on Oct. 24 to rehearse, and I'll do my best to do some on-site blogging. If any faithful readers know someone in Cologne, kindly spread the word.
congrats! No small feat!
