Liveblogging from Day 2 of Maria Schneider's Sky Blue sessions. It's now 8:40 PM -- the band has been going since 11:00 AM and they have just started another take. Donny McCaslin is playing his ass off, with the seductive, sinister rhythm section groove augmented by Gonzalo Grau and Pernell Saturnino on percussion. It kills me, but I'm going to have to split soon -- there's a Secret Society rehearsal tomorrow morning and I desperately need to prepare. But there are lots more of my session photos up on Maria's ArtistShare site and I think the interviews I recorded yesterday and today should be up soon.
Have you finished your participation on this album? I actually only recently bought "Concert In The Garden" (though I heard it when it when it first came out), but I'll probably pre-order this time.

Hey Mwanji,
Due to conflicting Secret Society and Pulse rehearsals, I could only be there for the first two days of recording (Saturday and Sunday). As far as I know, yesterday was the final recording day, and Maria and Joe Ferla should be just about ready to move on to the mixing and mastering stage. As you might imagine, mixing a big band record is a huge job -- I think the last one (Concert in the Garden) took over a month to mix. Anyway, the intended release date for Sky Blue is June 14.
