Ever since our previous double-engagement on the Bow'ry back in January, in which Secret Society joined forces with the Industrial Jazz Group,
the local bounders, cads, and ne'er-do-wells -- leastwise, those who
have not yet been cleans'd from the area -- have been agitating for
more big band, preferably of the steampunk variety.
On
May 19, we will attempt to slake their
fierce and fiery thirst, with the assistance of young Kyle Saulnier's 18-piece Awakening Orchestra. Mgr. Saulnier will inaugurate the proceedings at 7 o'clock sharp with
a sound best described as a "thunderous convergence." Secret Society
shall follow close upon at 8 in the P.M., once again bringing our
acclaim'd euphonious spectacle to the Bow'ry stage, this time with the
invaluable participation of Steve Coleman associate Jonathan Finlayson (trumpet), Jerseyband's own Alex Hamelin (bari sax/bass clarinet), and TIN/BAG co-leader Mike Baggetta (guitar), all appearing under Society auspices for the first time. We also welcome return appearances by multi-reedmen Ben Kono and Dan Willis and bassist nonpareil Thomson Kneeland, alongside all your favorite Secret Society stalwarts -- among which you surely count the inestimable Ingrid Jensen (trumpet) and the peerless Ryan Keberle (trombone).
A mere $12 will secure your entrance for both groups. You shall scarcely find another opportunity to hear so many musicians for so little coin.
(I should add that this will be the last Secret Society gig for a little while -- I plan to spend the summer writing new material for the band, something I've not had the opportunity to do recently.)
