There aren't a lot of fathers whose first reaction, upon finding out that their daughter was planning on moving across the country to shack up with some jazz musician he'd never met, would be "Cool! Can you get him to send me one of his CDs?"
Barry welcomed me into his family with open arms, for which I am eternally grateful. He was a tremendously accomplished scholar and activist and a wonderfully warm and compassionate human being. I still can't quite believe he's gone, and I will miss him more than words can express.
Lindsay has posted a tribute to her late father on her blog, and the head of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry has also posted his remembrance of Dr. Beyerstein.
I am out in Vancouver with Lindsay, her brother Loren, her mother Suzi, her grandmother Christine, and her uncle Dale. No more blogging for a while.
Hey Darcy,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like Barry was a great man and will be missed tremendously. Send love to Lindsay and I'm sending hugs north to you guys.
Love.
Amy

Sounds like you stumbled across an unexpectedly great guy (and it definitely doesn't have to be that way). So sorry, and hope you are finding solace among friends.
