back when i was at umass, we would do boston university's big band fest, which involves being judged by the festivals guest big-wigs and then the winner would play a public concert the same night. one year jim hall was the judge. he came up on stage after our performance and said to our guitarist in all seriousness, "i love your sound, man! can i take lessons from you?" nice guy, that jim hall...
